Fiddler On The Roof – A Resounding Success
22 October 2007
When the Fiddler on the Roof fiddled his last refrain last Saturday night, there were mixed emotions among the cast and crew – jubilation, relief, satisfaction, and sadness that it had all come to an end.
Every person involved in Wesley Institute’s production should be proud of the part they played in bringing together what was truly an outstanding show. Many of the cast would not be out of place in a professional production – Craig Scott was superb as Tevye, a poor Jewish man struggling to cope with change and persecution in the midst of State-sponsored pogroms against Jews in Tsarist Russia. And Wesley Mission’s own Nicole Schleicher, Group Manager of Education and Commercial Services, brought Tevye’s long-suffering wife Golde to life with her fine voice and acting.
Producer and Wesley Institute Principal David Johnston was thrilled with the success of the show, as was Director Michelle Selby, who believes the long hours she and others put into Fiddler were more than worth it. The Seymour Centre was close to full for each performance; more than 2500 people saw the production over the five shows.
By all accounts the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. David Johnston received the following glowing report:
“The singing was superb, the dancing was very good, the voice production was great, the acting was fantastic and the orchestra was splendid.”
What better way to sum up the production!
Wesley Mission Superintendent Rev Keith Garner also congratulated the Institute on such an "excellent presentation" – an opinion undoubtedly shared by all who were lucky enough to see it. Don’t miss the next one!
