Wesley Institute Choir Competes Internationally
26 June 2007
Over 20 Wesley Institute students will compete in an international choir competition, the Vienna Youth Choral Festival, on 8 July at the Marienkirche Concert Hall in Vienna. The competition brings together dozens of choirs from all over the world and spans over four days, also including competitions for orchestras and bands.
As part of their trip, the choir will also take a three week tour of Europe, as part of an academic subject called Historical and Cultural Performance Tour, which has been designed specifically around this opportunity.
The students will study classical composers and musicology on site as well as giving choral performances at some of the places they have studied in Music History. One of these places is St Mark’s Basilica in Venice where Vivaldi was on staff. The students will have the rare privilege of singing at one of the services there.
They will also perform in Rome at the Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore, as well as other performances in Florence, Munich, Vienna, Prague and Budapest.
The tour dates are from 26 June to 18 July and a detailed itinerary outlining various performances is available here.
